How long does it take to housebreak a puppy?
The housebreaking or potty training process can take between three to five months for some dogs. However, all dogs are different in their specific experience, ages and temperaments, so the duration of the process may vary.
Is treat training considered bribery?
It is difficult to argue that something is a bribe if the dog is not aware of the potential reward until after they have performed the behaviour. Regardless, the main aim in positive training is to build a REALLY strong reinforcement history because we know that if we follow up behaviour that we like with great consequences (like tasty food/treats or toy play) for the dog, then we will strengthen this behaviour, making it more likely to occur again.
What is the Alpha Dog (or Dominance) Theory and what does it mean for me and my puppy/dog?
The misunderstanding of what dominance is and how it works within the dog world is the single biggest challenge facing our collective ability to develop truly healthy, functional relationships with our dogs and was based on a highly debunked study. The most important thing for the general dog owner to understand is that their dog’s misbehaviour is actually very rarely a result of an attempt for them to assert dominance over their human.
